This site will contain articles on advancing the civil society. It will include ideas on communmity schools, commumity education, and the tools of shared decision making. The site will deal with creating learning societies. It will be of interest to others who think there is much truth in the quote from H. G. Wells, "History is in a race between education and catastrophe."

- Brian Staples is a retired educator living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He has been a young army officer, teacher, Superintendent of Schools and Director of Further Education and Executive Director of the Interdepartmental Community School Committee for the Province of Alberta. In community life he has been a Mayor and school trustee (Devon, Alberta). He made the motion to found the Canadian Association for Community Education and served as a President of the group. Currently, he is chair of a social action group in Edmonton which is concerned about advancing the civil society in Alberta and beyond. The group is called SALT, the Seniors' Action and Liaison Team. He often thinks about going sailing.
